Dorothy E. Bowman

Obituary of Dorothy E. Bowman

Dorothy E. (“Dot”) Bowman passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at the age of 82.  Born in Spring Valley, New York, Dot was a lifelong resident of Rockland County.  She lived in her home in Chestnut Ridge for nearly 60 years.

Dot was employed by Weleda Incorporated in Rockland County for more than 2 decades.  After her retirement from Weleda, she worked for Dr. Michael Schachter in Suffern for 15 years.  Dot was a member of The Brick Church in Spring Valley, where she was also a member of The Brick Church Ladies Guild.

Surviving are her children: Darleen Colvin (Bruce) of Tappan, NY, Bonnie Smith (Tom) of Ridgewood, NJ, Jeri Castelluccio (Mike) of New City, NY, John Weir (Cathy) of Post Falls, IA and Diane Byrne (Michael) of Ringwood, NJ. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, John Weir, in 1982 and her 2nd husband, Charles Bowman, in 2012.  Her beloved daughter, Karen Berry (Michael) passed away in 2012.

Her 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren will forever miss their “Grammy”.  Dot is also survived by her dear childhood friend, Eileen Gilchrist.

Family and friends were the center of Dot’s world.  She felt food was the key to one’s heart and made that abundantly clear by feeding everyone who walked through her door.  She was fiercely dedicated to her children, grandchildren, family, friends and neighbors.  Dot was full of love and never forgot to say “I love you” to everyone – and she meant it.  Our hearts are broken to have lost her.  Her unconditional love made this world a better place.

A celebration of Dot’s life will be held on Saturday, April 14th at 11:00 a.m. at The Brick Church, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, NY 10977.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Brick Church, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley NY 10977 or to Meals on Wheels of Rockland, 121 West Nyack Road, Nanuet NY 10954.
