Obituary of John J. Farrell

John J. Farrell of Park Ridge, NJ passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the age of 66. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he was a resident of Woodcliff Lake, River Vale and Montvale, NJ.

He was a former Director of Human Resources of JPMorgan Chase and member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Mr. Farrell joined The Chase Manhattan Bank in 1975 and has held various human resource positions in Corporate Human Resources, Global Banking, and Operations and Systems. As Director of Human Resources, he managed the organizational aspects of three major mergers, including Chase Manhattan and Chemical Bank, Chase Manhattan and JPMorgan, and the 2004 merger of JPMorgan Chase and Bank One.  Mr. Farrell was also a board member of the New York Inner-City Scholarship Fund, Inc., Structure Tone, and Chairman of Corporate Philanthropy for Cardinal Dolan. Formerly, he was a member of the Corporate Board of The University of Michigan School of Business Administration and managed United Way for the Tri- State.

Mr. John J. Farrell is a longtime supporter and board of trustee member of Catholic Charities.   In 2015 Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens officially renamed its Most Holy Trinity Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Apartments in Brooklyn to the John J. Farrell Residence. The residence provides 75 units of housing for single, formerly homeless adults. It reflects a philosophy that encourages individual self-sufficiency within the context of a supportive community.   John also received the Bishop’s Humanitarian Award as well as Knight of St. Gregory the Great.

As a diehard Yankee fan, John never missed an Opening Day. He was a man of faith who loved his country, going out with friends, and summers at the beach.

Above all he was a family man.  The love he had for his children and grandchildren had no bounds.  They were his pride and joy, and the immense hole left in their hearts with his passing will never be filled.

A humanitarian in every sense of the word, John continues to be an inspiration of charity and love to all that knew him.

He is survived by his two daughters: Maureen Farrell Herzog, her husband Scott; Lynn McCarthy, her husband Michael; son John Farrell, Jr.; their mother Eileen Farrell; six grandchildren: Ryan, Ellie, Shane, Annaleen, Teddy, Mae; sister Gloria Dwyer and two brothers: Charles Farrell and Paul Farrell.
