Obituary of John G. Salerno

Salerno, John G., age 85, of Waldwick, NJ, passed peacefully through the gates of Heaven to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday morning, February 16, 2018. John was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, NY before settling in Waldwick with his wife and family in 1960. John proudly served his country in the US Navy’s Submarine Force on the USS Sea Owl during the Korean War. As a young man, John worked as an usher at Radio City Music Hall. He had a long and illustrious career in sales and marketing with Bell Atlantic. Devoted to God and family, John coached Little League and served faithfully in his Assemblies of God church. He was a member of the Jaycees and American Legion. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane. He is survived by his children—John, Linda, Wendy, and Kerry; his grandchildren—Nicholas, Andrew, Joanna, and Kevin—and his 5 great grandchildren. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, February 20, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, at 10am at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
