Mildred M. Davies (nee Oostdyk) age 82 of Oakland went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, December 13, 2017.  Born in Passaic, Mildred grew up in Clifton and later in her teenage years Mendham, NJ.  She has lived in Oakland since 1965.  During her childhood she attended along with her family the Grace Church in Passaic and later Clifton. She and her sibling all played instruments and would sing while accompanied by their mom on the piano. Mildred was a lover of animals and at the age of 12 she started riding horses. Her mom encouraged her to learn cooking and sewing which she fell in love with, making her own clothing, bedspreads and draperies. At the age of 16 she learned her first sacred classic solo. Shortly thereafter the family moved to their new home in Mendham.  Graduating from Morristown High School in 1952, she went on to Kings College. Being invited to sing at Youth on the March, a TV program, she met Fred Davies.  She took professional voice lessons for the next 4 years and in October of 1956 she and Fred were married being blessed with 6 children.  Music continued to be a huge portion of her life singing for many area churches and choirs in the North Jersey area.  In 1980 she began Mildred’s Decorating in Oakland which she operated until recently. Mildred always felt blessed to be able to work out of her home enabling her to care for her children.  She also had the gift of hospitality, cooking and baking for family and friends.  God supplied every need and never failed her.  He truly was the strength of her life.  Surviving are her devoted children: Darlene and her husband David Charnesky, Dwight and his wife ReeAnne, Drew and his wife Jacki, Dean, Deborah and her husband Jerry Valente and Desiree Davies.  Mildred also leaves her 16 adoring grandchildren:  Christopher, Daniel and Michael Charnesky; Joseph, Beau, Merrily, James and Samuel Davies; Brittany and Candace Davies; Jacob, Sarah, Hannah and Jordan Valente; Quinton and Grace Vandermark and 6 great grandchildren:  Seraphina and Dahlia Davies; Brooke, Chad and Nash Davies; Jack Frawley.  Also surviving are her 5 brothers, Harold, John and his wife Outi, David and his wife Marilyn, Robert and Dan and his wife Sandy, and 3 sisters, Wilma Davis, Ruth Brown and Joy and her husband Bryce Yawger.  The Davies family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 4 PM to 8 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff.  Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21 at 11 AM also at the Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.  In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions in Mildred’s name may be made to Grace & Glory Ministries, 7877 State Route 104, Oswego, NY 13126.

II Timothy 4:7 & 8 KJV – I  have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
