Obituary of James T. Taranto

James T “Jim” Taranto passed away peacefully on Friday September 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 66. Born in Hackensack, NJ, he was a long time resident of Wyckoff and grew up in Fair Lawn. Jim taught Health at the Ramapo Ridge Middle School in Mahwah for 24 years. He was very active with the sports programs at the High School and was the varsity men’s basketball coach for many years. He was a member of the NJEA and supported the John F. Carty Scholarship Fund. Jim was dedicated to spending his time watching his children play sports throughout the years. He also enjoyed vacationing at the beach in Florida. Jim is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Margaret Taranto. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Maureen, his three children; Jimmy, Kaitlin and Mike; sister Judy and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Vander Platt Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the John F.
