Obituary of Cornelia "Connie" J. De Young

Cornelia J. De Young (nee Vroegindewey) age 93 of Oakland died on Sunday, September 3, 2017.  Born in Paterson, Connie grew up in Paterson and lived there until moving to Oakland 65 years ago.  Connie was, for many years, President of the Women’s Auxiliary at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff and the founder of the “Ye Olde Country Store” for the residents at CHCC. Connie was a member of the Living Word Reformed Church, formerly the Sixth Reformed Church in North Haledon.   Surviving are her two sons and daughter, John M. and his wife Lois of Brentwood, NH, Bruce W. and his wife Bonnie of West Milford and Sandra L. De Young of Oakland.   Connie also leaves her grandchildren, Terry Kennett, Gary De Young and his wife Kelly, Craig De Young and his wife Susanne, Lt. Col. Daniel De Young and his wife Julie, and granddaughter-in-law, Phyllis De Young.  Also surviving are her 12 adoring great grandchildren and one great granddaughter-in-law.  Visiting will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 10 am to 12 noon at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ.  A Funeral Service will follow at 12 noon with the burial in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn, NJ.   In lieu of flowers donations to the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481 or the Living Word Reformed Church, 21 Pleasant View Drive, North Haledon, NJ 07508 would be appreciated.
