Obituary of Nicka Stratis

Nicka Stratis (nee Peliotis), 98, of Paramus, passed away on Saturday, August 26th. Born in Pylos, Greece, she emigrated to the US in April 1928 with her mother and four siblings and settled in Jersey City, where they were reunited with her father and eldest brother. For 53 years she was the beloved wife of Aristodemos (Harry) Stratis, who predeceased her in 2005. Together they resided for a short while in East Orange, then Westwood, before settling in Paramus 50 years ago.  She was the devoted mother of Harriet Stratis and her husband Matthew Glucksberg, and cherished grandmother of Alexander Stratis. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff, NJ. Nicka lived the remainder of her long life after Harry’s death under the care of her daughter and her two devoted nurses whose compassionate service will always be warmly remembered and greatly appreciated by the Stratis family. Nicka is also survived by three nieces, two nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 31st at 10 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Avenue in Wyckoff, NJ, 07481. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visitation is Wednesday, August 30th between 4:00 and 7:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff. Donations in memory of Nicka may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
