Obituary of Joan E. Coppola

Joan E. Coppola passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the age of 83. Born in New Britain, CT, she was a longtime resident of Mahwah, NJ, previously from Oakland, NJ. Before retiring, Joan was a bookkeeper at Philip M. Shore, CPA in Midland Park, NJ. Joan’s greatest passion was spending time with her family. She was an avid bowler on the Oakland Bowling League, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends playing Mahjong. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Michael C. Coppola, two cherished daughters: Stephanie Benfante; Laura Mortara, four granddaughters: Allison, Nicole, Katie and Sara; and two brothers: Robert Simmons and Rick Simmons. Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah.
