Obituary of Thomas D. Cherubini

Entered eternal life: Thomas D. Cherubini MD, retired ophthalmologist, on April 17 2017. Born at home on March 30, 1929 in Hazleton PA. He was 88 years old, and was the seventh child of Leon Cherubini of Brescia Italy, and Agnes Gaumbach of Hazleton PA. His ashes will be interred at Mary Rest Catholic Cemetery in Mahwah New Jersey. Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Fabiola Veldorale Cherubini, and by his loving son Christopher T. Cherubini, as well as a large and close-knit family of cousins, nephews, and nieces. Sailing was always a great part of Thomas’s life, and the firm of Cherubini Yachts, operated by his nephew, is still vigorously in operation in Delran New Jersey. Doctor Cherubini was an alumnus of Philadelphia’s Temple and Hahnemann Universities, and of The University of Pennsylvania. He maintained a private medical practice on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He operated at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital as well as at the Cornell Medical Center’s New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he achieved the rank of Clinical Associate Professor. In his retirement he wrote several novels and short stories, all still in print. A memorial Mass will be said at St. Vincent Ferrer Roman Catholic Church at 869 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY, at 66th Street, on April 27, 2017 at ten o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New York Presbyterian Hospital prostate cancer research in Thomas’s name.
