Obituary of Barbara J. Lockhart

Lockhart, Barbara Louise Jones, age 92, died Thursday, March 2, 2017 at her home in Wyckoff, NJ. Born in Denver, CO, the daughter of Claude Lincoln Jones and Lena Losle, Barbara is predeceased by her 3 brothers, Harvey, Oscar and Fred. Shortly after her birth her family moved to Golden Valley, MN where Barbara grew up. She worked as a Supervisor at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Minneapolis where she played on the softball team. She later married Kenneth T. Lockhart of Duluth, MN. Ken’s job took the couple around the country, living in Omaha, NE, Chicago, IL, Jacksonville, FL, and Essex Fells, NJ where her daughter Susan was born. The couple then moved to Wyckoff, NJ. When Susan was 6, Ken’s job took the family to Huntington, NY where they settled for 12 years. During this time Barbara sold Real Estate in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. She was an active member of the Garden Club and is known for her green thumb, spending endless hours in her garden. She loved antiquing and garage sales. In 1978, Ken’s job took them back to Wyckoff where they have lived for nearly 39 years. When not in the garden, Barbara enjoyed volunteer work at Valley Hospital, working in the recovery room and Kurth Cottage. After 62 years of marriage, Barbara is predeceased by her husband Kenneth Thomas Lockhart, who passed on October 22, 2016. They were together for 67 years and were dubbed the original "Barbie and Ken". She is survived by her loving daughter Susan Elizabeth Surat and her husband Steve who currently reside in Wyckoff. Barbara is also survived by her favorite grandson, Benjamin Thomas Surat. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 11am at the Wyckoff Reformed Church, 580 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. The family will receive friends at their home in Wyckoff immediately following the service. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the James A.
