Obituary of Saveria Di Leo

DI LEO, Saveria C. (nee Antonucci) age 100, died peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at the Holland Christian Home in North Haledon. Vera was born in New Brighton, NY on May 12, 1906. She lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to Linden, NJ in 1938. Vera and her husband Tony owned and operated Di Leo Confectionary on South Wood Avenue in Linden from 1939 to 1952. Mrs. Di Leo was a seamstress by trade and worked for the Arthur Dress Company in Linden for more than 35 years. She also had opportunity to sew communion dresses and bedding for Indian reservations, and enjoyed crocheting afghans for the residents at the Eastern Christian Children's Retreat in Wyckoff. Vera was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's R.C.Church in Linden where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, she was a member of the 5th Ward Democratic Club in Linden and served as a Committee Woman, a member of the 50 plus club of Linden and the Senior Friendship Club. Vera was named Senior of the Year in Linden in 1989, and celebrated last May her 100th birthday with family and friends at the Knights of Columbus in Linden. Surviving are her sons, Sebastian Di Leo of Murietta, CA, and Michael Di Leo of Grand Prarie, TX. Vera also leaves her grandchildren, Judianne, Anthony, Matthew, Jason, Jennifer, and Daniel, three great grandchildren, and a brother. In 1978, Vera was pre-deceased by her husband Anthony Di Leo. Funeral mass will be held Thursday 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth's R. C. Church, 179 Hussa Street, Linden, NJ. Interment will follow in the Rosedale Cemetery in Linden. Visiting is Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ.
